Cigna Dental InsuranceCigna offers several dental, vision and hearing insurance plans to choose from. Some are geared toward dental only. Others are more comprehensive and cover dental, vision and hearing.

All are PPO policies that allow you to use any of their 93,000 network providers. Additionally, those who previously had dental coverage can avoid waiting periods on most services. Click the “Get Quotes” box on the right sidebar to compare plans and enroll today.

Cleanings, Basic and Major Services

There are several plans to choose from in most areas. All policies cover preventive dental care like cleanings, x-rays, and fluoride treatment. The others cover Basic and Major Services as well. Policy maximums range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year in most areas.

Depending on your needs, you can find coverage that best suits your budget and service requirements. For instance, some plans cover orthodontia while other cover implants.

  • Preventive & Diagnostic Coverage: Oral exams, routine cleanings, x-rays, sealants, fluoride treatment, space maintainers
  • Class II and III Coverage: Periodontics, x-rays, crowns, root canals, tooth extraction, dentures, partials, bridges
  • Class IV: Orthodontics, braces, dental implants

Who Is Eligible For Dental Coverage?

Anyone can purchase a Cigna dental plan! Coverage is available for children only, individuals, families and for those over age 65. Please contact us if you’re interested in a group employer based plan.

A 15% discount on monthly premiums is available when additional family members are added to a plan. There are no application or processing fees. You are enrolling direct. No referrals are needed to see a specialist and there are nearly 309,000 offices across the country accepting this coverage.

What About Vision and Hearing Insurance?

Fortunately, Cigna has you covered there as well. Several plans also include vision coverage and hearing benefits as well. You can mix and match benefits to find the best plan for your needs.

The coverage level selected will determine your costs for eye exams and allowance for lenses, contacts and frames. Plans offer up to $400 per year combined for all.

When hearing benefits are added, you can expect a small copay for an exam and $500-$1,000 per year for hearing aids.

Are There Waiting Periods?

When you purchase a Cigna dental plan, coverage will begin on the first of the next month. For Example:  A plan purchased on June 15th would be effective July 1.

If you’ve had dental insurance for 12 consecutive months prior to enrolling, any waiting periods will be waived for basic and major services. This is a great benefit for those who might be retiring and losing group employer coverage.

For all others, there are no waiting periods for basic cleanings. However, there will be a 6 month waiting period for Basic Services (like cavities) and a 12 month waiting period for Major Services (like crowns and root canals). And there is always a 12 month waiting period for orthodontia.

Dental, Vision & Hearing For Those On Medicare?

You probably know that most Medicare supplement insurance plans do not cover dental, vision and hearing insurance. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer these benefits, but not traditional supplements. Cigna insurance policies are available on a stand-alone basis to those who are on Medicare and don’t have ancillary benefits elsewhere.

If you’ve recently retired and lost a coverage through a group employer plan, then you can avoid any waiting periods. This is a great feature and it’s somewhat unique to Cigna. Most other insurance companies will make you satisfy their waiting periods even if you have no gap in coverage.

There is good news for those who need stand alone dental and vision insurance. United Healthcare, through their subsidiary Golden Rule now offers dental and vision insurance in several states.

Coverage is available for individuals and families from over 70,000 providers nationwide. There are several states offering coverage and in most places you will have several different plans to choose from. Vision can be added to any dental plan or purchased on its own.

United Healthcare Insurance

  • Affordable Monthly Rates
  • Four Dental Options In Most Areas
  • Two Vision Insurance Plans
  • Large Networks Of Providers
  • Coverage Can Begin Immediately

United Healthcare Dental and Vision

This is actual dental and vision insurance, not a discount plan. There is a large network of vision providers in several states.  The insured can go out of network for exams and purchases, but the most affordable benefits will be realized by staying in network.

As this is a new plan, it is not available in all states yet, but should be widely offered soon.  The vision plan, when coupled with dental coverage, can be purchased in Ohio, Missouri, Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Pennsylvania and several other states.

There is no underwriting needed in order to apply for coverage.  There will be a short waiting period for basic and/or major services to commence with the United HealthCare dental plans, but no waiting period for routine cleanings.  The vision coverage takes affect on the desired enrollment date.

UHC Vision Insurance Cost and Benefits

The cost is approximately nine dollars per month per person.  In-network coverage includes:

  • Eye exam every 12 months ($10 copay)
  • Frames every 24 months ($25 copay)
  • Most lenses every 12 months ($25 copay)
  • Contact in lieu of glasses ($25 copay)

If frames and lenses are purchased at the same time, then only once copay amount is due.  Not all frames and contacts are covered – therefore there is an allowance of $50 wholesale or $130 retail depending on the provider.  There is no copay for non-selection lenses and contacts.

United Healthcare Dental Insurance Coverage Options

UHC Dental and Vision InsuranceThe dental insurance options accompanying the vision insurance coverage are also comprehensive.  In most states, there are either two or four plans to choose from – each with a varying level of coverage.

The two plans are similar in benefits except that the Value Plan requires the insured to use in-network dentists whereas the Premier Plan does not.  The insured will enjoy monthly savings on their premium by selecting the Value Plan and using the UHC dental network.

In summary, United Healthcare (United Health One) through Golden Rule Insurance Company is already known for offering very affordable health insurance plans in most states.  Coverage can be purchased in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Florida, Pennsylvania as well as several other states.

They have increased their offerings and thus their appeal by offering vision and dental insurance to prospective insureds as well.  Click on the UHC logo above to view quotes, compare benefits and to enroll online direct.

Individual & Family Dental Insurance

Individuals and families of all ages are eligible for coverage with most all companies.

Routine preventive services (cleanings), basic services (fillings & simple extractions), major services (such as oral surgery, root canals and crowns) and orthodontic services are covered depending on the plan selected.

Most plans cover two cleanings per year (some offer three) plus routing x-rays. Beyond that, basic and major services are covered up the annual plan maximums. Typically maximum payouts per calendar year are $1,000 – $5,000 depending on the lever of coverage purchased.

What About Waiting Periods?

Most policies have no waiting periods for preventive services like cleanings and x-rays. Beyond that, it’s not unusual to see waits of 6 months for basic services and 1 year for major services. There are still other options with no waiting periods, but they might cover a smaller percentage in the first year.

Other insurance companies who waive the waiting period if you have existing coverage. If you need coverage to begin right away, we can help. We can also help you find a plan that your dentist and/or eye doctor accepts.

Dental, Vision & Hearing Plans For Seniors

Many insurance companies offer dental, vision and hearing coverage for those age 50 and above.

If you’re on Medicare, you know Supplements don’t cover much in the way of ancillary benefits. On the other hand, Medicare Advantage plans can cover some dental, vision and hearing benefits, but the networks can be small.

Fortunately, there are several companies offering policies that cater to seniors. Some plans pay up to $5,000 per year with no waiting periods if you have existing coverage that’s ending. Companies like Aetna, Cigna, Medico and United Healthcare are all popular with our clients in this market segment.

Not all of these companies offer direct-to-consumer quoting software. Please contact us to discuss all of your best options.

Stand-Alone Vision Insurance Coverage

Humana & United Healthcare (use the links above) as well as VSP & EyeMed (use the Ameritas link) all offer popular stand-alone vision coverage.

Most policies have a small copay for an exam – typically $10 -$20. Frames, lenses and/or contacts will also be available at discounted rates or for a small copay. Others might offer an annual allowance for certain items like designer frames.

There are no waiting periods. Coverage begins right away. If you wear both glasses and contacts, then certain policies will allow for both in the same year. Contact us if you’re unsure.

All plans have large nationwide networks, but VSP and EyeMed are two of the most well-known and widely accepted. See both by clicking on Ameritas links above.

Upon turning 65, many seniors will enroll in Medicare and purchase a Medicare supplement plan. Between Medicare and supplemental coverage, most seniors will have reliable health insurance. However, there is still one unfilled gap in these two plans. Medicare and supplemental coverage do not provide dental insurance coverage for seniors. We have filled this gap by offering several plans for our clients to choose from.

Dental & Vision Insurance For Those Over Age 65

Our most popular dental insurance plan has no deductible, no waiting period and provides 100% coverage for preventive services. Preventive services include periodic exams, x-rays, and cleanings. There is no network of dentists to choose from. The insured can use any dentist they wish to – including a current provider

Coverage for Basic and Major Services

The dental insurance also provides coverage for basic services like fillings, simple extractions, and oral surgery. Basic services are covered at 80% after only a six month waiting period. Major services such as crowns, dentures, and bridges are covered at 50% after a 12 month waiting period. The insured can choose a yearly maximum of either $1000 or $2000.

Please feel free to contact us to learn more about our plans. We can send you a descriptive brochure as well as provide instant quotes and online enrollment. Purchasing a plan is easy. There are no health questions or pre-qualifications to fulfill. Everyone who applies is accepted into this plan.
