Carriers Offering Coverage

There are several reasons you might be without health insurance coverage. Maybe you are self-employed, changing jobs, a college student, starting a small business or losing COBRA benefits. We work with the leading providers including Aetna, Anthem, American Community, Assurant, Golden Rule, United Health Care, Medical Mutual of Ohio and others.

Depending on your needs, health insurance carriers offer long term major medical coverage, short term temporary coverage, policies designed for college students and plans for small business owners and their employees. Most companies offer plans with several different deductibles and co-pay options from which to choose. Typically, consumers choose their own deductible with amounts ranging from $250 - $10,000. Insurance carriers also offer coinsurance options ranging from 20% - 100%. (In most plans, the consumer is responsible for the coinsurance amount up to $10,000.)

Health insurance providers offer a wide range of plans including many that offer maternity coverage. There are comprehensive policies with small deductibles and co-pay amounts. These more expensive policies can offer up to $8 million in lifetime benefits for those wanting maximum coverage. Conversely, polices with larger deductibles, higher co-pay amounts and $2 million in lifetime benefits are available to those wanting to stay within a desired budget.

Health Savings Accounts and Networks

Certain health insurance companies might only have one, very large “network” of medical practitioners to choose from, while other carriers have agreements with several networks. When applying for coverage, you can research and then select the network that includes your current physicians. If you have recently moved, an agent can recommend an extensive network for you and your family. (If you have not satisfied your deductible, the insurance company will negotiate a discount with “in network” providers resulting in savings to the insured for services rendered.)

Additionally, Congress recently passed legislation approving tax-favored savings accounts that can be attached to high deductible health insurance policies. These plans are referred to as Health Savings Accounts or HSA’s. HSA’s are gaining in popularity due to their tax advantages and flexibility in covering deductibles and other health related expenses. The money you deposit in your HSA grows tax-deferred and can be withdrawn tax-free for qualified medical expenses such as prescriptions, vision, or dental care. The money you do not use remains in the account year after year for future medical expenses. (Click here to learn more about HSA plans.)
