Choosing a Supplement Plan in Florida

Florida Medicare SupplementsThe ten modernized supplemental insurance plans to choose from are labeled A through N. Plan A offers only basic benefits not covered by Medicare while Plan F covers all gaps.

In Florida, Plans C, F, G and N are most popular when coupled with prescription Part D coverage.

Other plans offered by insurance providers include a high deductible Plan F. In order for benefits to begin, you would need to reach a $2000 deductible. Still other insurance companies offer supplemental coverage with a network of doctors and hospitals to choose from.

However, the most popular plans allow you to visit any doctor or hospital accepting Medicare patients.  Monthly premiums will be lower with high deductible or network driven “select” plans and should be considered by those on a tight budget.

Medigap Insurance Plans M and N

The newest Medicare supplement plans introduced in Florida and on a nationwide basis are Plans M and N. These are cost sharing plans and can best be compared to Medicare Advantage coverage. Plans M and N will not cover all the gaps in Medicare, but offer a reasonable trade-off in that monthly premiums are much lower than Plans C, F and G.

Plan N is being offered on a limited underwriting basis by some Medigap insurance providers. If you have been turned down in the past for supplemental insurance because of health concerns, you will likely qualify medically for Plan N. It is important to note that you may still need to purchase a prescription Part D drug plan as rx plans are sold separately from Medigap coverage.

How Much Do Medicare Supplements Cost?

Florida is unique in its demographics as it has a large senior population  Rates tend to be higher than in other states because of this fact.   We work with the leading supplemental providers in order to find the most affordable rates for our clients.  Some of the factors that will determine your monthly premiums will include: age, gender, resident zip code, the chosen insurance company, and the plan selected.

All policies are “guaranteed renewable,” which means as long as you pay your premiums each year, the insurance company cannot cancel your coverage. However, the insurance company can raise your rates from year to year, which is why healthy consumers occasionally look for better prices by speaking with an independent agency like ours.
