Choosing a Medicare Supplement Plan in AZ
The ten supplemental plans offered in Arizona are A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N. Plan A covers only basic benefits and Plan F provides the most comprehensive coverage. Plans C, F, and G are most popular as they fill in the most gaps in Medicare.
Monthly premiums for the exact same Medicare supplement will vary from company to company, but the benefits provided cannot be altered by the insurance provider. This is why most consumers shop on price and claims payment history.
Working with an independent agency such as ours, you can compare the lowest rates online with our Medigap insurance providers.
We have also provided an online Medicare supplement benefit comparison chart where you can compare and contrast the ten available plan options. It is important to note that not all supplement providers offer all ten plans for purchase.
New Medigap Coverage in Arizona
As of June 2010, two new plans were introduced nationwide that offer lower premiums in exchange for higher out of pocket expenses. These are referred to as Plans M and N and can be an affordable alternative for those who are comfortable paying a larger portion of their health care bills out of pocket.
Plan N is being offered by some supplement providers with very little underwriting and may be a good choice if you have been denied Medigap coverage in the past. There are only a few medical questions to answer and most who apply will be approved.
AZ Medicare Open Enrollment
Those turning age 65 are in open enrollment and are provided with a six month window to purchase a supplement without medical underwriting. However, if you are still offered health insurance from your employer and they allow you to stay on their group plan, then you will not be forced to purchase supplemental coverage in most cases.
Upon retirement or separation of service, you will have a new open enrollment period to purchase a Medigap plan without underwriting. If you do not take advantage of either period of time, then underwriting may be necessary and some insurance companies can deny your application if you have ongoing health concerns.
